Mr & Mrs Gunn spent 52 years living in their home at Georgemas before they decided to move back to Mrs Gunn’s hometown of Halkirk. They chose their plot in Halkirk as it is in a quiet area, away from a busy road unlike where they stayed previously. Their new home is also situated within walking distance of their daughter’s house which the couple felt was a requirement now that they were both getting older.
The couple got in touch with Norscot in March 2016 to talk about their self-build requirements. Mr & Mrs Gunn chose the Drumbeg kit which is part of our cottage range. They extended the main bedroom by a metre in order to provide them with additional space so they could add more wardrobes. They also increased the size of the attached garage and adjusted the position of some of the windows.
Mr Gunn states, “Norscot were very good and were happy to help anytime I approached or phoned them with a query.”
“They even helped us choose which glass to have in our doors.” Mrs Gunn added.
The house build was complete just over a year later and they were able to move in at the start of 2017. When asked what they’re favourite thing about their new home was, the couple both agreed that they couldn’t chose a favourite as they loved it all. Mr Gunn explained, “The house is completely to our own taste and exactly how we wanted it to be.”
With Caithness slate used on the outside corners of the house, it helps add a stunning feature piece to the otherwise modest cottage. The garden is mostly made up of stones as the couple wanted a low maintenance option, although they still have lots of greenery in pots to look after.
When asked what his final thoughts on Norscot’s service were, Mr Gunn replied, “Ian and Jason (who we dealt with) were both gentlemen and Norscot were excellent throughout the whole process.”
