At Norscot, we pride ourselves on our dedicated and experienced team, each member bringing unique skills and passion to their roles. Today, we’re excited to introduce Linda McMillan, one of our long-standing team members who has been part of our company for over two decades.
Born in Paisley and having spent her early years in Larkhall, Linda later moved to Cromarty, where she attended Cromarty Primary and Fortrose Academy. At 16, she left school for a Youth Training Scheme in secretarial studies, which paved the way for her career in Inverness, working at Jonathan Brooks/IF for a decade before joining Norscot in 2002. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a car mechanic!
Role and Responsibilities
Linda has been with us for an impressive 22 years. Her main responsibility lies in sales within the Timber Frame Kit Home department, but she also plays a vital role in scheduling work for our installers. Her experience and commitment have been invaluable to our team, ensuring smooth operations and satisfied customers.
Journey to Norscot
What drew Linda to Norscot was “a need for a new challenge and a passion for the construction industry,” she says. A typical day at the office starts with addressing any emails that have come in overnight, ensuring that no query or concern goes unanswered. The mornings are often busy with processing domestic orders for manufacture and scheduling work for our installers. She also handles payments, deals with kit enquiries, and orders items from suppliers. Customer interactions are frequent and varied, ranging from handling Customer Service Requests to installation queries.
Joys and Challenges
One of the most rewarding aspects of Linda’s job is the opportunity to interact with people, learn about their projects, and help them progress. A notable accomplishment that stands out is a Supply Only Window & Door Contract for a North-East Construction Company. She recalls, “This project required me to delve into U-Values and Wind Loadings to meet specific standards. Despite the challenges, successfully placing the order was a proud moment for me and the team.”
Looking Ahead: Excitement and Growth
Linda is “particularly excited” about her recent transition into Timber Frame Kit Sales. “This area has always intrigued me, and I’m eager to expand my knowledge and expertise,” she says. Looking ahead, she sees the construction and home improvement industries evolving significantly, especially with the growing emphasis on renewable energy and climate change targets. Enhancing homes with new heating systems and solar panels will likely become a significant trend.
Outside of work, Linda has a passion for personal training, reading, and enjoying television shows like Sewing Bee and Portrait Artist. A surprising fact about her that not many people know is that she once took part in the National Provincial MOD. The best piece of advice she ever received is to treat others how you would like to be treated, and one thing she can’t live without is Starbucks.
Stay tuned to meet more members of our team who make Norscot a trusted name in the home improvement and self-build industries.
