Professional Journey at Norscot
Alasdair’s role as an Architectural Technician involves designing homes and collaborating closely with clients to bring their visions to life. Though relatively new to the company, he’s already enjoying the work and feels a sense of pride when his efforts are appreciated. “I enjoy doing my work and then having my boss tell me I’ve done a good job. That gives me a sense of pride.”
What initially drew Alasdair to Norscot was the opportunity to advance his career as an Architectural Technologist.
A Typical Day in the Life
Alasdair’s day starts early—6:30 AM to be exact. After a quick shower, breakfast, and feeding his pet tortoise, Theo, he’s ready to head into the office in Inverness. With a cup of coffee in hand, he powers through emails and sets his goals for the day. His work varies between designing homes and speaking with clients, always maintaining a positive attitude.
Looking forward, Alasdair is especially excited to see one of his designs come to life in the form of a building. He finds this to be one of the most rewarding aspects of his role.
Industry Insights
Alasdair has his eye on the future of the construction and home improvement industry. He sees off-site manufacturing gaining traction, which will reduce the need for intensive labour roles. He also anticipates the increasing influence of technology, particularly AI and BIM (Building Information Modelling), in shaping the future of construction.
A Life Beyond Work
Born and raised in the Black Isle, Alasdair grew up in Tore before moving to North Kessock. When he’s not busy designing homes, you’ll likely find him staying active. Whether it’s rowing, running, going to the gym, or enjoying walks, you could say he’s quite a sporty person!
As a child, he dreamt of being a spaceman, and while his career may have taken a more grounded turn, his love for adventure remains. For instance, a surprising fact about him is that he can drive a Class 2 powerboat.
Fun Facts
When it comes to pop culture, Alasdair enjoys the movie Inception, the book Just for Kicks, and the TV show My Name is Earl. His love for Italian cuisine makes it his go-to for meals, and he fondly remembers his visit to Rome, Italy, as a particularly memorable trip.
Alasdair’s pet tortoise, Theo, is another source of joy in his life. “He’s pretty cool,” Alasdair says.
