Meet the Team: Carla Resendiz, Product Development Manager

At Norscot, we take pride in the people who help our company thrive. Today, we’re excited to introduce Carla, our Product Development Manager.

She brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role. With a background in industrial design and a focus on innovation, she has played a key role in driving strategic growth and enhancing the company’s value proposition since joining Team Norscot in 2019.

Why Norscot?

Carla’s journey with Norscot began when the company sought someone to develop a timber frame kit range to support independent living. With a strong passion for social innovation, particularly in the manufacturing sector, she found Norscot’s mission to be perfectly aligned with her values.

A Day in the Life

As Product Development Manager, Carla’s role is multifaceted. Her day-to-day responsibilities involve data analysis, collaboration with marketing and sales teams, and participation in leadership sessions to foster continuous improvement and innovation.

Proud Accomplishments and Career Highlights

Over her five years with Norscot, Carla has led several important projects, but two stand out as particularly significant.

“The WellBe Homes project, which evolved from my Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) work, has been a career highlight. Seeing how it has been adopted for community-led housing development is incredibly rewarding, and I’ve even documented a case study for future replication.”

Additionally, she played a key role in shaping Norscot’s future as part of the company’s 40th-anniversary celebrations.

“I led co-production sessions to revise and redefine Norscot’s mission, vision, and values. It was a transdisciplinary team effort that I’m very proud of,” she says.

Looking Forward to the Future

What excites Carla most about her role at Norscot is the company’s collaborative spirit.

“Norscot is always looking to improve and offer better products and services through innovation, which is what I love about working here.”

She is particularly enthusiastic about the future of the construction and home improvement industries, highlighting a shift towards more community-focused designs and sustainable, resident-centred solutions.

From Mexico to Scotland

Born and raised in Querétaro, Mexico, Carla’s passion for design runs in the family. Surrounded by artists and craftsmen, she developed a love for design from an early age. This passion led her to pursue a degree in Industrial Design, followed by advanced studies in innovation and construction.

Outside of work, Carla enjoys long nature walks and picnics with her husband and dogs, soaking in the stunning landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.

“It’s my favourite way to relax and recharge,” she says.

Outside the Office

Carla volunteers with the Boat Section of the Wick Heritage Museum, helping to maintain the historic Isabella Fortuna, a boat built in the 1890s.

“I love working on maintaining this historic boat and having a good chat with the team on Saturday mornings,” she shares.

And when it comes to favourite books, Carla’s current pick is the classic To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a novel that deeply resonates with her for its themes of empathy and understanding.

Words to Live By

When asked if she has a favourite quote or motto, Carla shares the below:

Anything that gets your blood racing is probably worth doing.” – Hunter S. Thompson
