After 18 years and 6 months working at the heart of our Bower Office and Factory, our Q A Manager Ellen Simpson retired last week. Before she left us, we had a quick (socially-distanced) chat with her about her time working at Norscot.

How long have you worked for Norscot?

I worked for Norscot for 18 years 6 months. I started in the Technical Department working with Jason and company. As well as being responsible for the day to day running of the Quality Management System, I was trained to assist with the timber frame side of things doing Planning Applications and Building Warrant applications and processing windows and doors for the Timber Frame Kit Houses.  I then progressed on to doing various other jobs including covering for staff in the processing department when they were on annual leave.

During my time as Quality Assurance Manager, I was responsible for organising Contracts Managers time and booking in jobs for the fitting team, overseeing other members of staff in the Sales Department as well as covering HR for the department.

Some favourite Norscot highlights?

One of the best things about working at Norscot was all the people and how well they got on together and worked as a team. We faced many a challenge at times but managed to work out solutions together.

We had many an enjoyable time together on outings and celebrations, especially our day at the Perth races and the companies 25th year celebrations which brought the whole company together for an enjoyable day.

Why did you join Norscot?

I had been made redundant from my previous job and was working as a temp for the local authority when the job at Norscot had been advertised. At the time my ex-husband was working for Norscot and knowing it to be a reputable company I applied for the job and was successful.

What will you miss the most about working at Norscot?

I will miss all my colleagues at both Bower and our Inverness branch and all the boys in the workshops and fitting teams, especially the Sales Team. There was always banter and crack and Jason’s stories!!  I will also miss the tradition of the baking we got on staff birthdays!!

Anything else, you’d like to add?

The plans are to try and landscape my back garden when the weather improves and spend more time with my family when the restrictions are lifted. Always wanted to have a nice long holiday to celebrate my retirement so maybe will eventually get one sometime in the future!

Everyone at Norscot would like to wish Ellen a very happy and long retirement.
