Meet Team Norscot at The Scottish Self-Build & Renovation Show North East 2026

As we gear up for our first show of the year, the Scottish Self Build and Renovation Show on 7th March at Thainstone Exchange, Inverurie, we caught up with Graeme and Aaron, who will be representing our timber frame team at the event.

With decades of combined experience in timber frame design, estimating, architectural work and energy compliance, they each bring deep expertise to anyone planning a new home. Graeme has over 35 years’ experience in timber frame design and project feasibility, while Aaron joined us late last year with more than 25 years in architectural design, SAP energy calculations and self-build kit development.

This will be Aaron’s first time attending a show since joining Norscot, and he’s looking forward to meeting visitors face-to-face, discussing design ideas and helping them understand the technical steps involved. Graeme is equally excited to speak with self-builders about feasibility, design considerations and the practicalities of bringing a kit home to life.

Together, they’re ready to offer clear, practical advice and guidance to anyone considering a self-build project — whether you’re just starting or refining your plans.

Q: How can attendees benefit from visiting our stand at the show?

Aaron: With over 25 years of experience in timber frame design, energy compliance and self-build support, I’m able to give visitors clear and practical guidance tailored to their project. Meeting customers face-to-face is a big part of how I work — I find it’s the best way to understand what people want and help them explore creative, cost-effective solutions. Whether they’re just starting or refining a design, visiting the stand gives them the chance to ask detailed questions and get expert advice on planning, warrant drawings, thermal compliance and the overall design process.

Graeme: Meeting us in person gives visitors the chance to speak directly with people who work hands-on with timber frame projects every day. I’ve worked in timber frame design and estimating for over 35 years, so I’m able to explain feasibility, design considerations and pricing in a clear and practical way. It’s a great opportunity for self-builders to get accurate guidance early in their project.

Q: What makes our products and services unique compared to other exhibitors at the show?

Aaron: What sets us apart is the combination of in-house manufacturing and deep technical expertise. I’ve worked across architectural design, energy calculations and kit development for many years, and that experience helps us support clients with more than just a product — we can guide them through planning drawings, warrant documentation, thermal compliance and design development. Because we handle so much of the process ourselves, clients get technical accuracy, consistency and solutions that are tailored to their home, not off-the-shelf.

Graeme: What really sets us apart is the depth of expertise behind every project we take on. With decades of experience in timber frame design and estimating, we can carefully assess each project’s feasibility and ensure that every material, detail, and structural component is properly considered. Visitors can feel confident knowing their project is being evaluated by a team that understands both the technical and practical requirements of homebuilding.

Q: How Does Our Approach to Customer Service and Support Set Us Apart in the Self-Build Industry?

Aaron: For me, great customer service starts with understanding the client’s vision. I’ve always believed in meeting people face-to-face whenever possible — whether that’s at the office, on-site or at events like this. It helps me interpret what they want and find the most efficient, compliant and cost-effective way to achieve it. No two houses are the same, and I enjoy the challenge of working through design ideas, meeting building standards and achieving thermal compliance in a way that still suits the client’s lifestyle. That level of personal involvement and technical support is something we take pride in at Norscot.

Graeme: A big part of what sets us apart is the level of detail and care that goes into every estimate and project evaluation. My role involves making sure clients receive accurate information, realistic costs and clear explanations, so they fully understand what’s possible for their build. Even though I’m still fairly new to the team, the collaborative approach here means customers benefit from a strong mix of experience, reliability and thoughtful guidance throughout their self-build journey.

Q: Can You Share Success Stories or Positive Feedback from Past Customers Who Have Worked with Us on Their Self-Build Projects?

A great example comes from Mr and Mrs Gunn, who built their family home in Halkirk using our Drumbeg kit as the starting point. They made several customisations to create a layout that suited their lifestyle — including enlarging the main bedroom, adjusting window placements and expanding the garage — showing just how flexible our designs can be.

They spoke very positively about their experience with Norscot, saying:

“Norscot were very good and were happy to help anytime I approached or phoned them with a query. They even helped us choose which glass to have in our doors.”

Their project is a great example of how self‑builders can personalise their kit while still benefiting from the practicality, efficiency and guidance of our team. It also highlights the ongoing support customers receive throughout the journey — from design tweaks to product choices.
